Makarsankranti falls on the 14th of January every year. This day is marked as beginning of the harvest festival in India.
From the south the sun shifts northwards, Daylight hours increase from this day – hence it is also known as Uttarayan. The skies are filled with colorful kites and a sweet delicacy made of sesame seeds and jaggery is consumed.
Devotees gathered on the morning of Uttarayan for Mangla Aarti to receive divine darshan of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa on this auspicious way. Devotees had put up a beautiful display of colourful kites and reels all around the temple hall. It is believed that you receive thousands of blessings in return of one donation. Hence people donate anonymously as they please (Gupt-Daan).
Sandhya Aarti niyams commenced at 6 in the evening. Followed by Acharya Swamishree Maharaj’s Divine discourses. Acharya Swamishree Maharaj explained, “We shouldn’t compromise abiding by the Lords’ holy commandments to adjust and feel accepted in the material world. This is because eternal salvation can only be attained by pleasing Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa, not this materialistic world. Those who are truly one with the Lord, will only wish to act in accordance with His commandments.” The congregation dispersed with prasad of Madhraspaak and Ghanthiya and with sweet memories of Makarsankranti.
