150th anniversary celebrations of Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swamibapa

Our spiritual great grandfather, Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swamibapa, manifested in the village of Ashlali on Samvat 1923 Vaishakh Vad 4 (Wednesday 22 May 1867). This year, we celebrate His 150th year.

On the weekend of 20th and 21st May 2017, a special, 2 part video compilation explaining the glory of beloved Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swamibapa was shown at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury.

The central display in front of the main Mandir sinhasan depicted the scene of Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swamibapa laying the foundation stone for Maninagar Mandir – the headquarters of the Karan Satsang.

The young students of Swamibapa Dharmic Classes presented a quiz about beloved Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swamibapa.

Below is a summary of what they explained to the congregation:

Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swamibapa was affectionately known as Sadguru Swamibapa. He was acclaimed as being Nidar Siddhant Vadi (unfaltering and principled).

Sadguru Swamibapa performed countless miracles and achieved many remarkable feats. Amongst these were:

 • Through His questions asked to Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree, and the answers that Bapashree gave, the remarkable Rahasyarth Pradeepika Tika sah Vachanamrut was created.
 • He authorised Jeevanpran Swamibapa to initiate Sants Himself – until then, it was commonplace for the household Acharyas to do this.
 • He inspired Jeevanpran Swamibapa to install the Murti of Jeevanpran Abji Bapashree next to that of Lord Shree Swaminarayan in every Mandir that He created.
 • Authored two volumes of Jeevanpran Abji Bapashree ni Vato.
 • He explained the true glory and supremacy of Lord Shree Swaminarayan and Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree, that proclaimed that Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree was Lord Shree Swaminarayan Himself.
 • He entrusted the Faith to Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa.

To celebrate the life and works of Sadguru Swamibapa, Jeevanpran Swamibapa initiated the practice of the “Sadguru Din” commemorations on the last day of each lunar month (Amas),  as Sadguru Swamibapa left his mortal appearance on the day of Amas.

Because these forms of devotion were so dear to Sadguru Swamibapa, Sadguru Din includes performing meditation (dhyan), chanting (dhoon), religious discourses (katha) and singing the “Sansmaran Kirtan” -  a devotional prayer sung to Sadguru Swamibapa, written by Jeevanpran Swamibapa on the day after He left His human appearance.

Jeevanpran Swamibapa teaches us that Sadguru Din should be used to self-assess one’s own religious development and progress.
