Excellence celebrated; Efforts rewarded

Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Academy of Excellence held its annual achievement awards evening on Saturday 2nd September, where the educational and academic accomplishments of the community are recognised and celebrated in the presence of Acharya Swamishree Maharaj.

The evening was also used to commend the community for its continuing charity efforts, and drive further participation in the campaign to support Save the Children in celebration of Sadbhav Amrut Parva – Acharya Swamishree Maharaj’s 75th year Charity Campaign. The evening saw the launch event under this campaign – ‘Let’s Bat for Save the Children’ is a 24-hour cricketing marathon aiming to raise further funds for the charity

The evening included awards for students of Swamibapa Gujarati School and Swamibapa Dharmic School, as well as awards for those that had excelled in their GCSEs, A-levels, Degrees, Sports Coaching, Apprenticeships and professional qualifications. The Excellence Awards recognised the very highest achievers across all the award categories, including one student who attained ten straight A*s at GSCE – a truly remarkable achievement and testimony to the encouragement of education given by Lord Shree Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree Maharaj.

Thalea Turowski from Save the Children addressed the audience about the important work of the charity, thanked the community for its thus-far and ongoing support to STC, and commended Acharya Swamishree Maharaj personally for His inspiration and encouragement of charity, community service and outreach.

Throughout the evening, there were reminders as to why the Mandir regards education and charity so highly: Lord Shree Swaminarayan was a remarkable reformer – abolishing irreligious acts by tackling the ignorance of the time; Jeevanpran Bapashree established the Mahasabha to protect the wealth of the Mandirs to ensure it was only used for societal good during a period where some were claiming those assets to be their own; Jeevanpran Swamibapa pioneered the practice to using the donations received from grand festival for community work, such as building schools and colleges – the first Sant of the Swaminarayan Sampraday to do so; and finally, Acharya Swamishree has combined all of those foundations to ensure His disciples around the world are active in community and charity work, and that Mandirs under His leadership promote education, achievement and excellence in all its forms.
