Day 1 - Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Shatabdi Mahotsav
Samvat 2063 Bhadarva Vad 5/6, Monday 1st October 2007

Day 1 Main

Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Shatabdi Mahotsav commenced with HDH Acharya Swamishree performing mangla aarti to the Supreme Lord Shree Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa.

The first day of the mahotsav included the initiation of two scripture recitials: Shree Rahasyartha Pradipika Tika sahit Vachnamrut and Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Granth. Acharya Swamishree and the benefactors for the recitals performed the ceremonial poojan of the holy scriputures before leaving for darshan at Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Smarak Bhavan Tower.

From the Tower a grand parade led by the Mass Pipe Bands from Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan arrived at the entrance gate of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Maninagar. Acharya Swamishree was seated on a decorated chariot and gave darshan to the thousands lined on the route. At the sabha mandap Acharya Swamishree was saluted by Swamibapa Pipe Band - Nairobi, Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Pipe Band - Bolton, Shree Muktajeevan Pipe Band - London, Swamibapa Pipe Band - USA.

Chief Guest

The Guest of Honour on this day was Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat and also an alumni of Shree Swaminarayan High School. Mr Modi was warmly welcomed by Acharya Swamishree on behalf of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan and presented with prasanta paagh.

Acharya Swamishree together with the Chief Minister and the Trustees of Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, officially opened the Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Shatabdi Mahotsav with the lighting of the Candle of Peace.

This morning saw the release of Shree Rahasyartha Pradipika Tika sahit Vachnamrut in English and an audio CD compilation Leela Shreejini Sambhado.

Jeevanpran Swamibapa actively promoted providing resources for charities and on this occasion Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan donated over Rs 251, 000 to charitable trusts dedicated to education.

In his speech Mr Modi said;

In the middle of the last century there was a prevailing belief that sants and ascetics should not leave the shores of India to visit other countries. Jeevanpran Swamibapa was a pioneer, and he was the first sant to leave the Motherland to spread the teachings and tenants of Lord Swaminarayan.

In the days of the Raj, the British ruled over masses of people but even they could not rule over Kathiavad section in Gujarat. Lord Swaminarayan showed compassion and humanity to these people and through His love they reformed there lives and become disciples of the Lord.

Acharya Swamishree's Divine Ashirwad

  • The occasion for which we have been eagerly awaiting for the past ten years is now upon us. Today, we are all dancing with joy at this Shatabdi Mahotsav.
  • To celebrate this auspicious occasion, Jeevanpran Swamibapa's disciples have come from all over the world; you have all realised that an occasion such as this does not come around often. Those disciples that have been unable to attend in person should rest assure that the supreme Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa will keep them a part of the festivities.
  • Today is the first day of the Mahotsav, and it is also the first day of the month. This occasion should be used to affirm one's first and foremost priority - having conviction for the Murti of God.
  • To measure this conviction, God often tests His disciples in a variety of ways. God may try His children, but He never relinquishes them. Bearing this in mind, one must never falter during such trying times. This is the essence of all the scriptures; that one's association with the Satsang should never recede under any circumstances. Let us pray to the Lord that when he does test us, may have the strength to remain intact.
  • If we add the numbers in today's date, 1-10-2007, the result is 2018; adding these digits, i.e. 2+0+1+8, equals 11. Accordingly, today is both the 5th and 6th tithi, also summing to 11. Thus, this Mahotsav is 11 days in duration. Moreover, according to the Vikram calendar, this month (Bhadarva) is the eleventh, and adding the digits of the Vikram year (2063) also yields 11.
  • Today marks the start of the recital of the Rahasyarth Pradeepika Tika sah Vachanamrut scripture. Lord Shree Swaminaryan has extracted the essences of all the sacred scriptures and amalgamated them into one divine scripture - the Vachanamrut. Jeevanpran Bapashree then elucidated these divine principles in the Rahasyarth Pradeepika Tika. This scripture is the everlasting source of absolute salvation.
  • Even if someone is competent in the teachings of the eight sacred scriptures, those fade into insignificance when compared to the Vachanamrut. Eminent scholars, such as Shree Krishna-vallabh-acharya, have commented that they have read all the great scriptures, and conclude, 'the Rahasyarth is supreme amongst all scriptures. I am incapable of extracting such insight from the Vachanamrut; the questioner [Sadguru Shree Ishwarcharandasji Swamibapa] and answerer [Jeevapran Bapashree] that have written this Rahasyarth truly dwell from the abode of God.
  • As well as the recital of the Vachanamrut, today also sees the start of the recital the Shree Swaminarayan Gadi scripture. This scripture describes the supremacy and divinity Lord Shree Swaminarayan's spiritual lineage. Anyone who listens to the recital of this scripture, attains peace within the Satsang; because the Lord's divine episodes is the true source of internal peace.
  • These two scriptures are our Vedas: the Vachanamrut contains the words of the Supreme Lord Himself; and the Shree Swaminarayan Gadi scripture contains the words of Jeevanpran Swamibapa Himself.
  • Jeevanpran Swamibapa has taught us that grand trees grow from the smallest of seeds. That small seed was the kichadi that Swamibapa humbly cooked in the kerosene tin. The grand, flowering tree that resulted is this Maninagar Dham. All that is left for us to do is to take the shelter of Jeevanpran Swamibapa, this Maninagar Dham and Shree Swaminarayan Gadi.
  • A person with a pious heart has three thoughts every night before he sleeps. Firstly he questions whether he has committed any sins during that day. Secondly, he enquires as to whether he has performed any worthy deeds. Thirdly, he queries whether he has neglected to do something that was meant to be done. These are the kinds of thoughts that enables one to progress in life.
  • In order to explain this, Shreejimaharaj has stated in the 30th Vachanamrut of the Gadhada Final Section, that five thoughts remain pertinent to Him.
    1. "It is a certainty that I am going to leave this body and die. There is no way of delaying this. It is indeed certain that I will die at a particular moment. I am constantly aware of this; during pleasures and pains, times of happiness and sadness; and whilst performing all activities. That is the manner of asceticism that I have."
    2. "I am constantly aware about the work that has been completed and until death occurs, the amount of work that still remains unaccomplished, which I have yet to do. "
    3. "I question whether the five sensations been eliminated from My mind or not? Having determined that they have indeed been discarded, I probe further as to why the sensations remain active. A doubt constantly arises about whether they have been discarded at all or not. "
    4. "I remain concerned about whether the five sensations have been eliminated from the senior, eminent sadhus such as Muktanand Swami and other eminent disciples or not. I am constantly examining the hearts of all to ascertain whose intense passions have receded and whose have not."
    5. "If I start allowing My soul to become dejected, it is uncertain where it would take Me. In fact, I would probably leave My body. Therefore, I believe that My mind should not be allowed to become despondent because it is due to the association with Me that all these women, men and paramhansas are happily performing devotion to God. I am pleased about that. My mind derives much pleasure from seeing all these people performing devotion to God. I know that everyone has to die at some stage, but performing devotion in this manner is the greatest benefit of living."
  • Yesterday, we concluded the 10-year efforts of writing the 'Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa' mantras. Some disciples have handwritten these, while others have chanted the supreme name whilst counting seeds or turning a rosary. The sole aim of everyone who partook in this was to please Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa.
  • Yet another memorable moment was witnessing over a thousand disciples dancing on Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Smruti Mandir during the Nrutya-utsav (festival of dance). This was the first time that anything of this nature had happened anywhere in the world. The Lord is immensely pleased at seeing such devotion.
  • Jeevanpran Swamibapa has shown infinite mercy on us all by giving us Shree Swaminarayan Gadi. With this, He has also given us this magnificent Maninagar dham from which the true, unadulterated principals of Lord Shree Swaminarayan are spread throughout the world. He has given us assurance that we will all reach the divine Murti of God.
  • We are gathered here today in the royal court of such a divine personage. This court is our home.
