July 28, 2014

After traveling over 8,800 miles by car and 2,500 miles by plane all across the United States and Canada to spread the glory and supreme philosophy of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa, Acharya Swamishree’s 2014 North American Vicharan came to an end on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, when Acharya Swamishree departed for the United Kingdom to celebrate the grand opening of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury.

During Acharya Swamishree’s two-month vicharan, He performed the Murti Pratishtha ceremonies and Mahotsav celebrations of grand new temples Shree Swaminarayan Temple Canada and Shree Swaminarayan Temple Delaware, the Patotsav ceremonies of temples and Hari Mandirs in Los Angeles, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Chicago, and New Jersey, and the pratishthas of new Hari Mandirs in the states of Tennessee and Ohio. There are now five principal temples and five Hari Mandirs of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan in North America. In addition, Acharya Swamishree and sants visited hundreds of homes and businesses of disciples and delivered countless sermons to elucidate the supreme knowledge and teachings of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa.

The Subhechha Samarambh program was held at Shree Swaminarayan Temple New Jersey on Monday, August 4, 2014, the day before Acharya Swamishree departed. Around 5 PM, everyone gathered inside the temple prayer hall, and sants performed kirtan-bhakti. Afterwards, Acharya Swamishree performed sandhya aarti, and everyone recited daily niyams. Once niyams concluded, Acharya Swamishree showered His divine blessings upon the entire congregation for the last time during His 2014 North American vicharan. Honorable guests were blessed by Acharya Swamishree, disciples offered garlands to Acharya Swamishree and sants to bid them farewell until next time, and many disciples and Swamibapa Pipe Band members were then honored for their outstanding seva to the temple as a part of the annual seva recognition awards at Shree Swaminarayan Temple New Jersey. Acharya Swamishree then blessed all of the disciples and gave everyone His divine darshan before being escorted out of the temple.

Monday evening after the program, many disciples gathered inside Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Community Hall to have the divine darshan of Acharya Swamishree having His evening thaal. The hall was decorated with many plants and flowers, and Acharya Swamishree was seated at the center with sants seated around Him. As they enjoyed their evening meal, disciples were able to have their divine darshan. Disciples also sang thaals and kirtans as Acharya Swamishree dined. Afterwards, disciples were served mahaprasad.

Acharya Swamishree performed His last aarti of the vicharan at Shree Swaminarayan Temple New Jersey around 4:30 PM on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. He blessed disciples inside the temple one last time before exiting. He was then seated inside His car outside the main entrance of the temple, and a police escort led the car from the temple to Newark International Airport. Disciples had formed a line all along the temple driveway, and as Acharya Swamishree left the temple grounds, He gave His divine darshan to them all.

Upon arriving to the airport, disciples gathered around Acharya Swamishree one last time for His divine darshan in the terminal lobby. Acharya Swamishree was garlanded before He and the mandal of sants accompanying Him to the United Kingdom were escorted to security. Acharya Swamishree and sants waved to disciples, who had congregated just outside security to watch Acharya Swamishree and sants go, the entire time as they went through security and walked towards their gate. Disciples joyfully waved back at them. Airport security, realizing just how special Acharya Swamishree is, made special accommodations for the disciples so that disciples could enjoy their final vicharan moments with Acharya Swamishree. Just when disciples thought Acharya Swamishree was making His final stride away from security and towards His gate, He turned back around and walked all the way through the security clearance up to where disciples were congregated to give them His divine darshan and smile and wave at them one final time. As Acharya Swamishree walked back towards His gate, disciples went home smiling from ear to ear.

Acharya Swamishree’s flight to London departed around 7:30 PM, and His 2014 North American vicharan came to an end. Acharya Swamishree will continue to elucidate the Lord’s teachings in the United Kingdom and will perform the grand opening of Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury.

As we reflect every year Acharya Swamishree tours North America, it is miraculous how much the Satsang has grown throughout the continent since Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa’s visit in October of 1970. This is all due to the blessings of Lord Shree Swaminarayan, Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree, Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa and the countless efforts of Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa and His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree. The disciples of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan residing in North America are forever thankful to Acharya Swamishree and sants for being able to witness the spectacular events they did during this vicharan. They pray to Lord Shree Swaminarayan, Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree, Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa, and Acharya Swamishree that the glory of the Lord continues to spread throughout this continent and that the disciples are able to please them more and more with each passing day. They pray that each year Acharya Swamishree tours North America, their dharma, gnan, and bhakti flourish and develop beyond those of the previous year.

Tennessee Murti Pratishtha
July 20, 2014

  Images

His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree, as part of His 2014 vicharan of North America, toured the state of Tennessee from Saturday, July 19, 2014, through Monday, July 21, 2014. He performed padhramanis at the homes of disciples and their various places of business whilst providing blessings to them all and propagating the glory of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa.

Sunday, July 20, 2014 was yet another special day for the disciples of Tennessee and the worldwide Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan parivar. Gurudev Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree's divine efforts came to fruition yet again, as Acharya Swamishree ceremoniously installed the divine murtis of Lord Shree Swaminarayan, Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree, and Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa in yet another Hari Mandir at the newly-built home of a disciple in Columbia, Tennessee. A grand annkut and aarti were offered to the Lord, Acharya Swamishree showered His divine blessings, and various handmade garlands and garments were offered to Acharya Swamishree in celebration of the occasion. The disciples of Tennessee and the southeastern states of the United States now have a common place to congregate on special occasions, such as Sadguru Din, Ekadashi, and Diwali, to praise the Lord, sing His glories, and learn His divine philosophy. This new Hari Mandir, where the Lord showers His divine darshan, will allow the faith of all of these disciples and of those who visit the mandir to strengthen with each passing day.

There is a special story behind this Hari Mandir that is worth sharing to demonstrate how the Lord completes all of our endeavors if we have the utmost faith in Him. The home in which the Hari Mandir resides was built in just two months. The disciple owning this home had a deep desire to have it built within two months so that Acharya Swamishree could perform the idol-installation ceremony in the month of July. The disciple searched for many contractors in Tennessee, but he found only one, Larry Vick, who had enough faith in the Lord to say, "I will build your home in two months if you pray to the Lord that there will be no rain in these two months while we construct." The disciple prayed to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree and also discussed the situation with Acharya Swamishree and sants. Acharya Swamishree gave the disciple His blessings to proceed construction work with Larry Vick and assured the disciple that it would not rain. During the two months of construction, there was not a single drop of rain. It only started to rain when the very last shingle was placed on the home's roof, completing construction of the home. The disciple and the contractor became extremely pleased, and their faith in the Lord and Acharya Swamishree, which had already been paramount, exponentially increased.

Upon witnessing this miraculous episode of the Lord and Acharya Swamishree's divine prowess, the contractor, Larry Vick, insisted that he personally hand over the keys to the new home to Acharya Swamishree. He wanted the hand over the keys to the divine being who had made this miracle happen. As such, Larry would not give any keys (garage door, side door, or front door) to the home-owning disciple until Acharya Swamishree arrived. Larry wanted to perform the darshan of Acharya Swamishree and hand the keys himself. The disciple obliged, and Larry Vick received blessings from Acharya Swamishree whilst He took the keys from Larry and opened the home for the very first time.

This divine episode of the Lord and Acharya Swamishree's prowess demonstrates that anyone, disciple or not, who has faith in the Lord's divine powers will surely achieve all of their well-intended goals and have all of their heart's endeavors completed, with the Lord's blessings on their side.

As such, the Hari Mandir in Columbia, Tennessee, has been opened for all moksh-seeking individuals. The disciples of Tennessee and the Southeast region of the United States, who have demonstrated such strong faith in the Lord, will surely continue to blossom through this mandir with the Lord's blessings.

Shree Swaminarayan Temple Ocala, Florida 4th Patotsav
July 13, 2014

  Images

In July of 2010, His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the United States' next sikhar-bandh mandir. He also installed the divine murtis of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa in a Hari Mandir next to the new temple site so that the disciples of Florida would have a place to congregate and propagate the glory of Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa while the new temple construction was in progress.

On Sunday, July 13th, 2014, Acharya Swamishree performed the 4th Patotsav ceremony of the Hari Mandir. Acharya Swamishree, sants, and disciples performed Patotsav poojan in the early morning. A lavish annkut was offered to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa, and Acharya Swamishree, sants, and disciples all offered aarti to the Lord.

After the ceremony had concluded, Acharya Swamishree inaugurated a blood drive that had been organized by disciples in coordination with Life South Community Blood Centers for the event. The kind nurses offered Acharya Swamishree a bouquet of flowers. Many disciples and community members donated their blood throughout the day. Blood and organ donation is a seva regarded extremely highly by the Lord, as it is completely selfless.

Acharya Swamishree, sants, and disciples then proceeded to the tent that had been erected next to the temple for the celebrations. Acharya Swamishree showered His divine blessings for both Gurupoonam and the Patotsav upon all sants and disciples.

Everyone was served mahaprasad after the Patotsav ceremony and ashirwad had concluded. This wrapped up the Gurupoonam and Patotsav celebrations in Ocala, Florida.

Gurupoonam
July 12, 2014
  Images

In Hinduism, Ashadh sud poonam (the full-moon day in the Hindu calendar month of Ashadh) is observed as the auspicious day of Gurupoonam. On this day, all Hindus worship and honor their Gurus. Gurupoonam is one of the three main annual festivals in the Swaminarayan Sampraday. His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree, sants, and disciples all take this day to gather and pay respect to our Gurus, Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa.

Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa explains the precise meaning of the Sanskrit word “guru.” Gu means “andhkaar,” which is “darkness.” Ru means “prakaash,” which is “light.” Thus, one who enlightens the ignorant or shines light to those in darkness is called a Guru. Swamibapa says further, “Guru veena gnaan nahi,” which translates to, “Without a Guru, knowledge cannot be attained.” Without a Guru, knowledge about religion and the real meaning of life cannot be achieved.  Only Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa can enlighten our souls with true religious knowledge, and by doing so, we can achieve the greatest happiness and endless peace of the supreme Lord. Therefore, He is our true Guru, and it is important to honor Him on this auspicious day.

This year, Gurupoonam fell on Saturday, July 12th, 2014; disciples all across the world celebrated this auspicious occasion within their respective mandals or temples. His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree and sants celebrated the occasion at Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Ocala, Florida, as it coincided with the temple’s fourth Patotsav and Acharya Swamishree’s tour of the state.

The celebration at Shree Swaminarayan Temple Ocala commenced with parayan poojan led by sants and performed by disciples in the tent that had been erected next to the temple as a part of the Patotsav celebrations. Acharya Swamishree and sants then performed the Gurupoojan ceremony to Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa and performed aarti to Him. Disciples were also given the opportunity to perform aarti to our Gurudev. Everyone was then seated, and they listened to Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa’s divine ashirwad about Gurupoonam and our Gurudev Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa. Following Jeevanpran Swamibapa’s blessings, disciples adorned Acharya Swamishree in hand-crafted flower vagha, and all disciples were then given the opportunity to perform the Gurupoojan ceremony. The young disciples of Florida then performed devotional dances to please Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and Acharya Swamishree. Acharya Swamishree was then escorted to the temple for sandhya aarti and niyams. After niyams, everyone was served mahaprasad to conclude the celebrations.

Chaturmaas Niyams
July 9, 2014
  Images

The auspicious four-month period, between Devshay Ekadashi and Prabhodini Ekadashi, called Chaturmaas commenced on Wednesday, July 9th, 2014. During this time, all disciples take extra vows, such as fasting, meditation, scripture recitals, extra mala, extra pradakshina, and other religious observances, in accordance with the Lord’s commandments in sloks 76 through 78 of the Shikshapatri. In addition, Gurudev Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa has insisted that Chaturmaas vows include one observance of fasting, scripture recital, and meditation each.

As such, His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree and seventeen sants, while touring the Carolinas of the United States, took their Chaturmaas vows early in the morning after Mangala aarti on July 9th, 2014. Sants and disciples all throughout North America and the world also took their vows on this day.

At the beginning of Chaturmaas, disciples make a promise to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa to perform their selected observances daily throughout the entire period. The Lord is extremely pleased with those disciples who keep this promise through the very last day of Chaturmaas. It is the Lord’s hope that we become so accustomed to performing these religious observances throughout Chaturmaas that we continue to perform them and please the Lord with them even after the period ends.

  Images

On June 15th, 2014, disciples celebrated Father’s Day in the presence of His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree and sants at Shree Swaminarayan Temple, Secaucus, New Jersey. Acharya Swamishree and sants had returned to Secaucus following their visits to Shree Swaminarayan Temple, Los Angeles, California, the first hari-mandir in the United States located in Seattle, Washington, and lastly, Norfolk and Hampton, Virginia.

At the start of the event, Acharya Swamishree greeted senior Bharatiya Janatya Party (BJP) members Shree Parshottambhai Rupala and Shree Rameshwarbhai Chaurasiya. Swamibapa Pipe Band welcomed the honorary guests upon their arrival outside the temple and then escorted the guests and Acharya Swamishree into the temple before saluting Acharya Swamishree and all honorary guests. Inside the temple hall, Acharya Swamishree and both Indian dignitaries exchanged formal regards and presented each other with flower garlands. Given the chance to address the sabha of hundreds of disciples, both party leaders emphasized the extensive charity work of Maninagar Shree Swaminaryan Gadi Sansthan and complimented Acharya Swamishree as a guru and leader in His success in instilling important religious and cultural values in our youth today.

In honor of the occasion, Acharya Swamishree blessed the audience with a special Father’s Day ashirwad. Reminding disciples that every day is Father’s Day, Acharya Swamishree discoursed on our inherent obligations to Lord Swaminaryanbapa Swamibapa who is the Father of all.

Following ashirwad, Acharya Swamishree cut a special Father’s Day cake before the continuation of the rest of the evening program. Thereafter, disciples gave speeches on select Father’s Day topics ranging from the history of Father’s Day to the religious implications in our karan satsang.

After the conclusion of the special speeches, disciples of Shree Swaminarayan Temple Delaware (S.S.S.S.M. Mid-Atlantic, U.S.A.) entered the temple hall to the kirtan “Mara Man Gamta Ghanshyam, Padharo Mare Ghare Padharo” and walked down the aisle as a group towards Acharya Swamishree’s gadi. Young disciples in front carried in hand an ornately-decorated invitation. The disciples collectively presented an official invitation to Acharya Swamishree, requested He grace Shree Swaminarayan Temple Delaware with His divine presence from July 4 through July 6, 2014 for the temple’s Murti Pratishtha Mahotsav and the Diamond Tula of Shree Hairkrushna Maharaj. Acharya Swamishree joyously opened the invitation and accepted the disciples’ humble request.

Thereafter, all disciples were given the opportunity to perform aarti to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa. Mahaprasad and candy, consecrated by Acharya Swamishree, was distributed to all to conclude the 2014 Father’s Day celebrations at Shree Swaminarayan Temple New Jersey.

Although sants have visited Seattle, Washington during their vicharans across North America over the past few years, His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree visited the city and state from June 8 through June 11, 2014, for the first time since 2003 (eleven years ago). It was in this city that our Gurudev Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa established the first Hari Mandir in North America at the home of a disciple. Acharya Swamishree visited this same disciple's home during this current vicharan.

Sants also visited the principal Boeing aircraft factory in the world, located in Seattle, as well as Mount Rainer. Visiting Mount Rainer has been a tradition since Jeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa visited the landmark in 1970. These visits to Mount Rainer are done to remember the divine episodes of our beloved Swamibapa at the site.

In addition, a sabha was held at the Hari Mandir for all disciples in the Seattle area, during which Acharya Swamishree showered His divine blessings, and disciples performed devotional dances, gave speeches, and did musical performances. Surrounding neighbors were also invited to receive Acharya Swamishree's blessings and divine darshan.

Arrival

Departing the United Kingdom following a brief but celebratory stay, Acharya Swamishree and the sant mandal landed at Newark International Airport at approximately 1:00 PM Eastern on Monday, June 2nd, 2014. Disciples, both local as well as others living as far as four hours from Shree Swaminarayan Temple, Secaucus, NJ, elatedly greeted His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree right outside the airport gate. After gracing everyone with His first blessings of this two-month long vicharan, Acharya Swamishree was given a police escort to the temple, courtesy of Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli.

To His surprise, Acharya Swamishree was overjoyed to see Mayor Gonnelli waiting at the entrance of Secaucus, NJ, wanting to personally greet Acharya Swamishree at the “outskirts of the village.” After meeting Mayor Gonnelli on the roadside, Acharya Swamishree proceeded to the temple where He was saluted by Swamibapa Pipe Band before performing the first aarti to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa of His eventful vicharan this year.

Welcome Sabha
June 3rd, 2014

In the evening, a special sabha was held in Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Community Hall to officially welcome Acharya Swamishree and His seventeen-member sant madal to the United States. To start the program, Swamibapa Pipe Band escorted Acharya Swamishree and honorary guests Mayor Gonelli and Councilman Constantino to the hall and saluted them before the hundreds in attendance. Mayor Gonnelli then addressed the sabha, formally welcoming Acharya Swamishree back to Secaucus and then offering his well-wishes for the duration of Acharya Swamishree’s cross country and cross continental vicharan.

Following the speeches, music boomed from the speakers and filled Muktajeevan Swamibapa Community Hall. At first, a single disciple stood in his place and started dancing. Shortly after, another disciple stood in his place and started dancing. In a matter of minutes, every one of all ages was on their feet dancing cohesively as a single unit. Acharya Swamishree and sants were amazed at the execution of an all-encompassing flash mob dance. Immediately after this energetic performance, Acharya Swamishree cut the cake celebrating the welcome ceremony and His 72nd manifestation day anniversary.

After the various surprise festivities, sants performed kirtan-bhakti and Acharya Swamishree blessed the audience with divine ashirwad.

To conclude the evening, all disciples performed aarti to Lord Swaminarayanbapa Swamibapa and His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree. Disciples then enjoyed maha-prasad and were treated to kulfi by Rajbhog Foods.
