Wednesday 30 June 2021 marked 75 years of Vasant-Rajab’s killings. Acharya Swamiji Maharaj, Jagannath Mandir Mahant Shri Dilipdasji Maharaj and others gathered t pay respects and honour these brave heroes whose aim was to calm the communal riots taking place in the city of Ahmedabad but in the course of this, they both lost their lives.

Acharya Swamiji Maharaj, Jagannath Mandir Mahant Shri Dilipdasji Maharaj and others gathered t pay respects and honour these brave heroes whose aim was to calm the communal riots taking place in the city of Ahmedabad but in the course of this, they both lost their lives.

During 1946, Vasant-rao Hegishte and Rajab Ali Lakhani staved off hordes of rioters during the annual Rath Yatya from Jamalpur’s Jagannath Temple. Vasant was saving Muslims whilst Rajab was protecting Muslims. Both lost their lives during their efforts to restore communal peace and faith in humanity.

On 6 October 2016, the day of Gandhi Jayanti, a Peace March was held from the World Peace Centre – Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Smurti Mandir in Ghodasar to the Gaekwad Haveli of Bandhutva Smarak. Ved Ratna Acharya Swamishree Maharaj was greeted by the Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner at the end of the Peace March.

Today, Acharya Shree Jitendriyapriya Swamiji Maharaj also visited the Gaekwad Haveli of Bandhutva Smarak and was greeted by historian Dr Rizwan Kadri. Acharya Swamiji Maharaj, Shri Dilipdasji Maharaj and the Commissioner of Police, paid homage at the Vasant-Rajab Memorial, and inaugurated the second edition of a publication, Vasant - Rajab Bemisal Balidan – published in Gujarati, Hindi and English.
