A Visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world and one of the pioneering conservation organizations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust embraces all measures that complement the conservation, preservation and protection of wildlife. These include anti-poaching, safe guarding the natural environment, enhancing community awareness, addressing animal welfare issues, providing veterinary assistance to animals in need, rescuing and hand rearing elephant and rhino orphans, along with other species that can ultimately enjoy a quality of life in wild terms when grown.

On the 12th January, 32 orphaned elephants received the divine blessings of HDH Acharya Swamishree. Acharya Swamishree, sants and disciples keenly observed the nature and behavior of the beautiful elephants. Elephants can be playful and full of emotion just like human beings. Acharya Swamishree sprinkled consecrated water over the elephants.

A little orphan at the trust who didn’t get a splash of the consecrated water wandered at Acharya Swamishrees’ lotus feet until he got what he desired. It was indeed an exclusive sight to see the affection of the little orphan towards Param Pujya Acharya Swamishree. 32 elephants from the 67 adopted on September 21st 2014, in the loving memory of the bereaved victims of the tragic Westgate attack, were blessed.
