On Sunday 23rd July, young disciples gathered at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury in the early hours to take part in a Pooja workshop.

At a very young age, each disciple will have been given a set of Murtis for worshipping. He or she must perform Pooja to these Murtis every day – only after performing Pooja can they eat, drink and perform the rest of their daily activities.

Pooja is a personal appointment with God, and it is important that this ritual is performed correctly. The main stages of Pooja are stated in the Shikshapatri, Sloks 50 – 57, and much greater detail is given in the spiritual syllabus, Sanskar Deepika Part 2. This workshop was held so that the youngsters in the community are able to learn the correct procedure of Pooja, and to ask any questions that they may have about it.
